Cory was a good sport and let me shoot a few test photos today at lunch to see if I had managed to sort out the focus issues I was having with my new 35mm L lens. After years of dreaming about owning some L glass, I was really hoping I wouldn't have to go through the hassle of returning or repairing my first one. Fortunately, my problems were entirely user error; I had apparently left the camera in the "AI Focus" mode instead of the "One Shot" mode, which basically meant that anything I was telling it to focus on was really more of a gentle suggestion than anything else. I think I probably flipped over for the air show, or one of Liz's races, or the zoo trip, or general chasing-the-kid-around action and then got too distracted to set it back to normal again.
So now that I've tamed the beast, I am pretty much officially in love with the new lens and am really looking forward to working with it.
