When Liz and Cory ran the 4-mile and 2-mile Shot in the Dark races, I brought the DSLR and went on a street photography mission. I ended up with close to a thousand photos from the race and subsequent party, then edited the collection down to about 120 of my favorites. I've been trying to narrow down the shot of the day from that, but I've lost patience and, since this was an early standout (very few shots from this batch even have titles yet!), I'm calling it now.
She had a really wonderful smile, but never turned it in my direction; but I find this faraway look even more captivating. This was really only a fleeting moment, a pause in the conversation with the man to her left, but once the shutter freezes them in time, they're separated for eternity, never to bridge the silent chasm that divides them evermore.
