84/365: Rockets' Red Glare

84/365: Rockets' Red Glare

After leaving Castaway Cay, the evening brought us a special treat--not only was it the night of the always-fun pirate party, complete with an amazing fireworks show launched from aboard the Disney Dream, but we had the special privilege of passing the Disney Fantasy on its shakedown cruise. Both ships engaged in what's known as a "horn battle", where we each took turns blasting tunes at one another on the ships' horns. Then after the Dream's fireworks show, the Fantasy launched into her own, the first (and I believe still the only) time such a display has occurred.

The day was also notable for me because Liz and I went parasailing for the first time at Castaway Cay. After being scared out of my mind leading up to our turn, I was surprised to discover how calming and serene the actual experience was, suspended gracefully in the sky with no sense of the distance between our feet and the water far, far below. I'd definitely like to try it again...

82/365: Enchanted Garden

The morning after the epic conclusion to the Disney World parks, we boarded the Disney Dream for a five-day cruise. I could gush and gush about how much I love cruising with Disney, but then I'd never get around to actually finishing this 365 project, so I'll keep it short.

Once we boarded the Dream, our first stop was the Enchanted Garden restaurant, where the decor subtly cycles from day to night and back again.

81/365: Magic's End

It's only taken 270 days for me to pick a photo for March 21, our day in Disney's Magic Kingdom. In spite of the many successful shots over the course of the day, I keep coming back to this one from the finale of the fireworks show. I like the silhouette of the castle, I like the heavy black tones, I like the subtle illumination of the crowd. And the fireworks are all right too. (Actually I'm kind of impressed with all of the fireworks shots I posted from that day; I think they're pretty good considering I was shooting hand-held and basically winging it the whole time.)

After literally months of hemming and hawing, I finally settled on this shot of one of the dancers in Animal Kingdom's afternoon parade as the 365 picture of the day. Some other strong contenders were:

Frankly, as I keep looking these over, I'm still not completely sold on my choice, but as it's now July, I'm pretty sure I just need to get over it and move on. After all, I've still got half of the Disney vacation to review, edit, and upload!

Snow's Spaceship

The third day of our epic Disney vacation was at EPCOT. I shot quite a lot that I liked, so choosing a single favorite shot for the 365 has really slowed me down, but in the end this iconic juxtaposition won out; to me, it captures the legacy of Disney's past and ambition for the future.

But like I said, there are a lot of shots that I liked and am proud of, and I'm really trying to force myself to only upload the strongest things, so start here if you'd like to see the other highlights.

Outside Downtown Disney's Lego store is this fabulous display of Prince Philip battling Maleficent in dragon form.

Here are a few of my other favorite shots from our travel to and first evening (St. Patrick's Day, oddly enough, which made for a strange but not unpleasant energy) in the parks:

The Traveler Alien Spit The Luggage Lady Leprechaun Twilight at Fulton's

I'm woefully behind on uploading things, but the first couple days of our trip have made it to Flickr.
